In an interview with The Verge, the chief designer of the brand, Hope Liu, said that the decision was made to save space on the device.
According to Liu, the change was necessary to allow the implementation of features such as a large-capacity battery, support for fast wired charging and a better antenna for mobile connectivity.
He further explained that, although it is a relatively small space on the outside, the slider has a considerable impact on the area of the motherboard, occupying about 30 mm2.
“If the slider was kept, we would need to stack the motherboard of the device, which would make its construction thicker.”
OnePlus still needed to install two “charging pumps” on the OnePlus 10T, against only one present in the well-known OnePlus 10 Pro that supports 80W. With this, previous rumors have already pointed out that the new device will be supported with up to 150 W fast charging via the USB-C port.
In addition, the connectivity system in the OnePlus 10T will have 15 antennas that should optimize the experience in different situations, by improving the speed when the mobile phone is in a horizontal position.
OnePlus 10T will not have Hasselblad components for cost savings
A few days ago, it was also announced that the OnePlus 10T would not have Hasselblad-signed components in its camera set, unlike several high-end models of the brand. In the same interview, Hope Liu explained the situation.

According to him, the goal is “to offer a high performance [of the cameras], within the price range stipulated for the device”. So this is a way of saying that the device had to undergo some cost reductions, including in the optical assembly.
At the same time, this information fuels the possibility that the device will be offered at a lower price than the OnePlus 10 Pro. However, this will only be confirmed at the device launch event.
